We understand that it can be daunting to consider coming in for a first therapy appointment, whether it is your first appointment ever or just your first appointment with us.
Below is some information that we thought may be useful for those considering scheduling a first time appointment with North Star Counseling Center.
FInances and insurance
At NSCC, we currently only accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance. Other forms of payment accepted include cash, check, or major credit cards.
Clients with other forms of insurance are welcomed to submit Out-of-network claims for sessions they have paid upfront for. If you are interested in submitting an out-of-network claim, simply let your therapist know as early as possible in your session and a superbill of services can be provided for your ease of submission.
Sessions are $150/hour. Payment in full is expected at the time services are rendered.
Parking AND location information
Our office is located in Downtown Barrington in the Old Bank Building. There is ample free parking along the nearby streets and in front of the building itself, however, please be aware of various time restrictions and pay meters.
Our office is located on the Lower Level of 135 Park. If you arrive early for your appointment, please have a seat in the waiting area and your therapist will be with you shortly!
What to expect
Your first appointment will last one hour. You will need to bring your ID, a credit card to keep on file, and your BCBS insurance card (if applicable). It is also highly recommended that you print and fill out the necessary intake forms prior to coming in for your appointment — you can find them here, but your therapist should also offer to email them to you when scheduling your first appointment. While completing these forms ahead of time and bringing them with you saves time, you can still expect to spend several minutes discussing some of these very important topics at the top of your session in person with your therapist, including confidentiality, methods of communication, and payment.
The middle of your first session is for your therapist to learn more about you — what brings you in to therapy? What are your goals? What are you struggling with? You will also likely be asked to answer some questions about your personal history and other relevant information to help provide context in assessing your current needs in treatment as well as any future referrals.
Finally, as your session comes to a close, you and your therapist will both be evaluating what the next best step will be.
